Made by one person, from scratch, for your occasion. Not assembled from parts somebody else baked.
Get a Free QuoteArtisan is a word that has been used so loosely it has almost stopped meaning anything. Supermarkets put it on packaging. Chains put it on menus. So it is worth being specific about what it means here.
Every Bake You Happy cake is baked from scratch by Paulina. The sponge is not bought in and decorated. The fillings are made rather than piped from a tub. The decoration is either made by hand or sourced and checked individually. One person makes your cake start to finish, and that person is the same one you spoke to about it.
That is the actual difference. Not a style, not a finish, but who made it and how.
The visible difference is that nothing is standardised. There is no catalogue to pick from and no set of templates being recoloured. You describe the occasion and Paulina designs for it, which is why no two cakes on the gallery are the same.
The less visible difference is the ingredients. Free range eggs, real butter, proper chocolate, fresh fruit and real flavourings rather than the cheaper substitutes that survive a long shelf life. A cake made to be eaten on Saturday does not need to last three weeks, so it does not need what makes that possible.
The trade off is honest: handmade takes time, so orders need notice, and small batch costs more per cake than mass production. What you get for it is a cake made for your occasion by someone who cares whether it is right.
Bake You Happy is based in north east London and delivers across London, Essex and Hertfordshire, roughly a 25 mile radius, with a charge based on distance. Collection is always welcome.
That covers Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Enfield, Chingford, Walthamstow, Tottenham, Loughton, Woodford and most of north and east London, reaching into south Essex.
What makes a cake artisan rather than shop bought?
Artisan means made by hand from scratch by one person rather than assembled from components made elsewhere. At Bake You Happy the sponge is baked to order, the fillings are made rather than bought, and the decoration is made or individually sourced. The person you speak to is the person who bakes it.
Are artisan cakes more expensive?
Yes, and honestly so. Small batch handmade work costs more per cake than mass production, because it takes one person hours rather than a line minutes. What you are paying for is a cake designed for your occasion using proper ingredients, not a decorated wholesale sponge.
How much notice do you need for an artisan cake?
Two to four weeks for most celebration cakes, and three to six months for weddings. Detailed designs with modelled work benefit from longer. If your date is close it is still worth asking, because there is often a slot.
Do you use real ingredients or substitutes?
Free range eggs, real butter, proper chocolate, fresh fruit and real flavourings. A cake being eaten within days does not need the preservatives and substitutes that give supermarket cakes their shelf life.
